Have you ever considered a career in the fire service?
West Pierce Fire & Rescue’s Youth Academy is a great way for students ages 14-18 to experience what it’s like to be a firefighter. This two-day academy offers students the opportunity to learn about various disciplines within the fire service, while gaining hands-on experience.

Application Period
May 1-15, 2025
Applications will be accepted from:
8:00 a.m. PST on May 1 through
4:30 p.m. PST on May 15, 2025
and must be completed online.
Cost
There is NO COST to attend.
All equipment and gear necessary will be provided.
Breakfast, snacks and lunch each day will also be provided.
Eligibility Requirements
– Age 14-18 by the first day of the academy
– Live or attend school in Lakewood, University Place or Steilacoom
– Must be able to attend orientation on June 19
– Must be able to attend both days of the academy
– Parent or guardian’s consent (included in the online application)
Acceptance
All applications will be reviewed and selected based on eligibility requirements
and space available. Those who have not previously attended the Youth Academy
will have priority over those who have.
Timeline
May 1-15 – Application period is open
Week of May 19 – Applications are reviewed
Week of May 26 – Applicants are notified VIA EMAIL whether they are accepted. Participants who
are accepted will then receive follow-up information about specifics regarding the Youth Academy
June 19 – Family orientation night
June 21-22 – Youth Academy
June 24 – Graduation ceremony
