Thunderstorms, Hail, Strong Winds, and Potential Tornado on the Way

The National Weather Service is forecasting thunderstorms, large hail, and strong wind gusts to hit the area around 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 26.

There’s also the slight possibility of a tornado. The NWS Weather Forecast Office says the tornado risk has increased to 5-9% for some areas of Lewis, Thurston, and Pierce Counties.

The Pierce County Department of Emergency Management has opened up severe weather shelters across the county.

West Pierce Fire & Rescue closed its front lobby early at 3 p.m. Our crews will be monitoring the weather and will be ready to respond when necessary.

Lightning and hail can injure people, animals and cause damage to vehicles and buildings. Please stay inside and bring animals indoors. Delay any travel plans.

High winds within the West Pierce jurisdictions may cause power outages. Prepare now by charging your phones, and having working flashlights. More ways to prepare can be found on the West Pierce Emergency Management Coalition’s Power Outage Hazard Page.
